A new GTA 5 secret has been uncovered in the game, some nine years after its initial release on the PS3 and Xbox 360, and it involves Liberty City, the site of both GTA III and GTA 4, and the series’ fictitious take on New York City. GTA 5 and GTA Online, as you may know, both take place largely in Los Santos, the series’ fictional version of Los Angeles. In other words, you can’t view the Liberty City skyline from any window in Los Santos, but you can see it from one specific window in the game.
The Liberty City Easter Egg was spotted on Twitter by “Numbeur Ouane” and needs gamers to visit the Opium Nights hotel late at night. You can see the Liberty City skyline if you peek through a specific window from here. Not only is this an homage, but it’s also a clear play-on-words with “Opium,” which is a hallucinogenic drug.
This Easter Egg is peculiar in that it only appears in the PS4 and Xbox One versions of the game. The PS5 and Xbox Series X|S versions of the game do not include it. Why? We have no idea. It’s a strange distinction, but one that seems insignificant.
When always, we’ll keep you updated as additional information about the Easter Egg becomes available. Of course, it’s possible that someone knew about this before, but this appears to be the first time it’s been documented. It’s also worth noting that the actual length of time this has been in the game is unknown. For all we know, it may be a brand-new feature, which would be intriguing given the recent speculations that GTA Online would be getting a Liberty City expansion this summer.
